Hello All,
New to the 3.0L Duramax scene, with our new - used 2020 Silverado 1500 with 74k miles when we got it a week ago. Looks like it was used off road / construction or farm use. Purchased in Arkansas and truck was serviced in the Scott , AR area.

Anyhow... it looks like it has had an oil leak for some time from the front (Seal or Plug area) from the dirty oil build up underneath and going towards the rear of the oil pan.

Tonight, at the house it was making a racket under neath the truck / motor area (see video attached). It does not sound as bad on the top side of the engine, that's why I am hoping it's doing a Regen Cycle and things are just rattling like a Rod is going out.

This is not our first diesel as we have had the POS 6.0L Ford. and 2 Dodge Rams... 06, 2500 and a 2011, 6.7 with deletes and 360k miles and still running strong.

I have been working on Dirt bikes since I was 13 and almost 65 now and this is the first "Sound" like this I have experienced. We did get a 75k, 5-year warranty, just in case.

Any ideas or suggestions on the weird sound is appreciated.

How can I upload my mp4 video? Whats the trick??

Transmission code today and the noise is coming from the Transmission Pan. Going into the Dealership next week.

UGH Used vehicles. 🙈

Welcome.

Was going to say, it's not in regen. The system will pause the regen when it comes to a stop and idle after a minute.

Sorry to read about your troubles. Now you why it was traded in. 😭

Thank you.

Yea... you never know with used vehicles what you are going to get.

Consider installing the PPE Oil Pan replacement. It adds an additional 2.5 qts of oil, all aluminum, fully drains all the oil when doing an oil change, and incorporates a nice beefy oil drain plug with a neodymium magnet to capture any metal shavings. Also, install PPE’s oil filter, it’s approximately 1.5 times larger than the factory filter, and also filters down to 10 microns. I also swapped out the tranny oil pan for the PPE Version, increasing capacity to 13.5 QTs. I use the Amsoil 0W-20 for motor oil and Amsoil ‘s ULV TRANSMISSION Oil. Best of luck.
