Gents,

Looking for some insight or similar experiences from anyone who’s dealt with transmission failures tied to the valve body recall on the 3.0L LM2.

Vehicle Context:

  • Year/Model: 2020 Chevrolet Silverado RST 3.0L Duramax
  • Mileage: 107,XXX miles (Powertrain warranty expired at 100k; Valve Body Special Coverage/Recall is active up to 150k)
  • Ownership: Purchased late May, driven less than 3,000 miles since buying.
The Issue & Dealership Timeline:

  1. Initial Symptoms: Vehicle began experiencing temporary rear-wheel lockups around 73 mph. The issue rapidly progressed, becoming more frequent and unpredictable.
  2. First Visit: Brought it to my local dealership. Diagnostics pointed to the known valve body issue. After some pushback, the dealership agreed to perform the recall repair under coverage.
  3. Unresolved: Picked the truck up, but within a week, the lockup issue was still occurring.
  4. Second Visit: Brought it straight back. I requested a full valve body replacement using the updated Gen 3 part and asked them to test the Torque Converter Clutch (TCC). Was met with a condescending "Stay off the internet, buddy," but they eventually agreed to install the Gen 3 valve body rather than reinstalling the old revision.
  5. The Verdict: Got a call this morning stating the transmission has an internal failure and requires a complete replacement. Quoted cost: $9,800. The service department vaguely offered to "help me out" on the cost, but hasn't given a firm number yet.
My Stance: Given that momentum-driven rear wheel lockups and severe fluid pressure anomalies are directly caused by a failing valve body, it seems clear the initial valve body failure directly compromised the internal transmission components. Because the valve body issue was covered under the 150k recall/special coverage, the resulting secondary transmission damage should logically be covered as well.

Has anyone else faced a full transmission failure secondary to the valve body recall past the 100k powertrain mark? How did GM or your dealership handle goodwill coverage or claim escalation? Any advice on escalating through GM Customer Care would be greatly appreciated.
